Hymns for Weddings

Over 39 years ago a sweet friend sang at my wedding. Jenny Crowe had the voice of an angel and I was thrilled when we booked her. There were no hymns performed. However, “The Lord’s Prayer”, and “You Light up my Life” were the two choices we made to symbolize what we prayed our life together would be like. We didn’t have an orchestra or a choir as backup, but please enjoy this rendition of “The Lord’s Prayer” by Andrea Bocelli.

A Call to Prayer

This morning I received an email from a charity that is dear to my heart. Compassion International works with sponsors across the globe to help children grow into all God intends them to be. The email was a call to prayer in 2020, but with a different twist. The writer encourages sponsors to pray through hymns. As I read the email, memories of singing hymns in church, at youth retreats, funerals and weddings began to flood my mind. Songs like “Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, It is Well with my Soul and Be Thou My Vision.” I was immediately filled with the desire to pray through hymns for my marriage and in particular for my husband.

Hymns for Him

Pray Hymns for Him in 2020

All brides or newlyweds are invited to join me in 2020 to pray for our grooms or husbands. I decided to start with “The Lord’s Prayer” since the words were spoken by Jesus Himself and it was sung at our wedding.  Pray “The Lord’s Prayer” with me or choose your own hymn to guide you as you ask God’s blessing on the man in your life. Please share how God moves in your lives as we pray together.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name.

Lord, Jesus, I pray for my husband to revere your name and to live in a way that pleases You.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

I pray we will both be more kingdom-focused and that Your will is done quickly here on earth as it is in Heaven. I pray we respond to Your will just as the angels do, without hesitation.

Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

our daily bread

Lord, give us what we need each day. Forgive us when we yearn for more than that. Help us to give to those in need without expecting anything in return. Thank you for your forgiveness, for we owe way more than we can ever pay. Gently remind us, Lord, when others need our forgiveness of how generous You’ve been with grace and mercy.

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:

Father, be our guide. Watch over us like a shepherd and keep us from harm. Keep us from harm that can lead us astray or cause our faith to waiver. Deliver us when we become ensnared with evil so that we might bring You honor.

be our shepherd

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever,

Lord God, this earth is Yours. The power to hold all things together is Yours. All glory is Yours from all of time and until forever. You never change. Help us to worship You, love You, trust You and bring glory to Your name.

Amen.

So let it be.
